Mini Snacks Get Max Shelf Presence

Nuevo Grille® makes restaurant-quality frozen Mexican food products for retail and club grocery store chains. Its products can be described as bold, exciting and flavorful. It needed a new packaging system that would communicate these attributes, when it launched its new line of frozen mini Mexican food snacks.

Our challenge was to design a system for the entire line of these snack products. There were eight different items in the line, ranging from mini burritos to mini quesadillas to mini taquitos. The snack products are offered in three different fillings: vegetarian, chicken and beef. So our first step was to devise a color scheme for each of the three fillings.

The unique thing about this line is that these items are the perfect size for snacks and parties. So we emphasized quantity in the photo shoot, where we stacked the entire quantity of one package on a plate for each of the package’s hero shots. We made the products look as appealing as possible by careful attention to detail with the food styling and garnishing during the photo shoot. Finally, we designed a packaging template for the entire line using the photography, color scheme and a consistent type treatment.

The final packaging system communicates one consistent brand of frozen snacks yet makes it easy to distinguish between the three different fillings. This helps facilitate first-time and repeat consumer buying behavior.
